AuthorSupportTool is an extension for Writer. It adds new features for scientific publishing like source and citation management, better support of collaborative work with subversion and a visual editor for managing focal points. It is fully localized in english and german, but it can be easily translated into other languages via gettext / poedit. For further documentation see integrated extension help in OpenOffice.org help content.

AST appeared to be a great application but I haven't been able to insert sources to my document. Having created a few sources as well as reference styles I choose a source in the left area, press Source, choose a style and confirm with OK but no source is inserted into the text. Nothing happens! Does anyone have any idea on what might have gone wrong? Is it something I haven't done or is there a problem with my software?
Is there a way to customize menu items? The spanish translation have several errors...
Same problem here (OOo 3.11, Kubuntu 9.10). Reason is simply a missing installation of: "openoffice.org-java-common" (package), which is not installed by default, when installing OOo. After installation, extension can be added with no problem and works perfect.
Btw: Crashing of OOo by attempting to load an extension with missing dependencies is surely a bug in OOo itself (only running "unopkg" in shell will give you an info).
This extension is great.
Personally I did not crash (OOo 3.2 XPsp3).
I really like the management of bibliographic sources.
Have you ever weighed something for alphabetical indexes ... OpenOffice.org has a lot of limitations compared to MsWord (e.g. Issue 104691).
The alphabetical indexes (much more than tables of contents) are very important for academic and scientific publications (especially in the humanities and legal).
I have no problem with crashes, but I would like to know how I change the language in the wizard? It is German and I only understand the most simple of words. Could it be connected with the fact that I have set my Oo to use Norwegian? It shouldn't have. The language in the menu is english.
Hello Tarald,
the extension reads-out the oo.org locale and then it tries to enable the corresponding language file. If it doesn't find one, it uses the german localisation as default. The menu is not affected by this algorithm.
It is possible to switch the default localisation to english, but only in the code directly. We will fix this with the next minor release which wil be released soon.
OOo crashes when I try to invoke Template Wizard…
OOo freezes with a spinning ball when I try to invoke Manage focal points…
The menuItem AuthorSupportTool should not be in the main menu bar. Rather, it should be in Tools -> Add-Ons -> AuthorSupportTool

Hello,
the first problem with the crashing template wizard was fixed in release 1.0.1. The second issue is a general openoffice problem with the java engine on Mac OS X 10.6. See Issue 92926 in the oo.org bug database for more information. I don't know in which openoffice.org release this bug will be fixed.
The idea to move the menu entry to Tools -> Add-Ons -> AuthorSupportTool is a reasonable suggestion, but we created the extension with the recommended openoffice.org Netbeans plugin and this is the menu path Netbeans generates automatically. If your suggested path becomes an official guideline for extension developers, we will surely change the menu position.
Crashs when I try to start the Template Wizard which sadly makes it impossible to use this tool for managing sources (as I can't insert them without going to the Template Wizard first). If you need more information to analyze this feel free to contact me. Happens with 3.1.0 on two seperate installs of OOo.
also could you please move the menu item from main menu to "Tools > Addons"? It's quite cluttering if every extension puts its own item in menu bar instead of a submenu.
