I cannot manipulate the Family Address Book document without receiving a error message "No Java installation could be found". I've uninstalled Java, removed older versions and reinstalled newest version, along with updating Open Office. Any suggestions from anyone?

I just downloaded and began using this extension. So far I think it is great except for one thing. I really want it to filter the phone numbers I type in so that it automatically changes the numbers typed, 1234567890, to the correct format: (123)456-7890. I really don't like have to type all the formatting every time. For this reason, I would look for another address book extension or even program.

By registering the database first, I was able to paste in the data.
Thank you for the program.

I downloaded it but I can't paste the Calc data into the Information Table. "Paste" does not appear after I right click as instructed.

I installed this template and entered 14 family pages. The final results are great!

This is a very useful application - well thought out and generally user friendly, except for two issues with buggy functions (or, possibly with my ignorance).

I had some trouble with entering dates, but not quite as the previous user described.

While using the "Browse All Information" Form to enter and edit data, I found that some of the previously entered birth date and anniversary dates occasionally change, as additional dates are entered on the same page. I can see no consistent pattern to these occurrences, and the changes appear to be random, except that only valid-looking (but wrong) dates are produced. It is possible to correct the errors by re-entering the correct dates, although this may again occasionally cause other dates to change. Once editing of the page is completed, however, the dates seem to remain stable.

I am also confused by the lack of a "Save" function. After entering new data or making edits, I find that the "Save" button is grayed-out, and non-functional. Closing the file with the "File: Close" button sometimes seems to save the changes, and other times does not. Closing the program with the "X" button sometimes elicits a question "Data has changed. Do you wish to save your changes?". After clicking "Yes", the changes may or may not be saved. Changing to another page before closing makes no difference.

I am puzzled by the caption bar "FamilyAddressBook.odb 1. Browse All Information (Read Only) - OpenOffice.org Base" . If it is truly "Read Only", why does it allow me to edit at all, and eventually to save my edits?

It seems that I must make only a few changes at a time, then close the file in hopes that my changes will be saved, before re-opening and continuing my edits. I adjusted the "Auto-Save" function to 2 minutes - this does not seem to guarantee that changes will be saved, although I wait more than the specified time after my last edit before closing the file.

I am a newbie with the Open Office Base software, so I may well be missing something basic. I followed the set-up and use instructions cook-book fashion. I have searched the available documentation and read the forums about these issues.

Apparently I am not alone in experiencing these kinds of problems, but none of the suggested solutions so far have helped.

Forgive me for troubling you but I need some advice. I am new to Open Office, and very tired of MS, and in particular up to HERE with Outlook!

I have downloaded the zip for your address book and tried to use it, but nothing seems as expected. When I proceed down the road outlined in the Instructions, it gets more and more confusing. Maybe I'm missing the point, but it seems even worse than Outlook. I never do get to the Labels for John & Jane Doe etc. And as for entering my own data, that's just a dream.

Surely there's a better way. Remember when computers were going to simplify our lives? I'm beginning to think an old fashioned cardex is the best of all. It's quick to set up, easy to amend, and especially friendly on batteries.

I love this idea, but the birth date function doesn't work (It automatically changes whatever you write to the today's date so that you cannot have any friends older than 0 days and have to add any new additions to the family on the day they're born or it's too late.. ) Tested it on two different computers and it didn't work on any of them.

Depending on the installation of OpenOffice, the solution is to either use the format DD.MM.YYYY (4.7.1974 = July 4, 1974) or to use this format: MM/DD/YYYY (for example 7/4/1974).

Great piece of work i like it alot

this is by far one of the most efficient adress collectors I have used.
Thanks Sun,
Carl

A very well organized address book with many features. I give it 5 stars.

Thanks for this, it has really helped to stop the embarrasment that you get when forgetting birthdays and some anniversaries. Easy to setup and useful bit of kit, worth the download.

This is a good database to keep track of your family and friends!

Thank you for your comment. I also have a Family Budget now available, too: http://templates.services.openoffice.org/en/node/1177

This is really useful and very easy to setup. Thanks so much. I'm going to check out the Family budget one as well but alas I suspect I'm beyond help there ! At least I can remember birthdays and my anniversaries now
