This extension for OpenOffice.org and derivatives improves the lists of recent documents by adding two menu items.

  • Change the size of each list from 0 to 100.
  • Eliminate the useless names.
  • Change the order of the names.

Menu File - Recent of same type...

  • Find recent documents of a same type in one of the lists.

The help pages are integrated into OpenOffice.org.

Supported User interfaces languages :
English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, Danish, Czech, Dutch.

For other UI languages, dialogs and help appear in english.

If you are willing to translate in another language, contact me before!

Adding this extension to OpenOffice 4.1.12 made the program crash right at the start.
Any idea what I can do to uninstall this extension ?
Since I am not getting into OpenOffice at all I am a bit lost here ......

Here is a link to the latest version of the extension stored at Apache
https://home.apache.org/~mseidel/HistoryMaster-1.1.1.oxt

I have been using History Master for years. It works fine on AOO 1.4.3. I agree a way to add files would be nice. I have re-organized my filing system which means HM loses track of where everything is. Meanwhile, the trick is to replace the files before cleaning out the unreachable links.

I clicked the link to download the add-on but found the page in French. Translation said the page is no longer available. Does anybody have this add-on where I can get a copy of it?

... with Apache OpenOffice 4.2.0 AOO420m1(Build:9800) - Rev. 1651021

I reported it as a bug to LibreOffice here:

http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80099

along with some other suggestions for enhancements. I also like the idea suggested by whitephoenix above.

You said : "It no longer works with 4.2.1.1, with the menu under Tools - Addon - History Master to set its parameters and manage lists, and the File - Recent Documents of Same Type options both producing scripting errors."
- Work for me without errors on LibreOffice 4.2.4 on Windows 7.

Regarding your enhancement proposals, they are very specific to your job and your way of doing it. The usual method is to use a file manager to store the documents in a tree structure of appropriately named folders.

If you deleted, or renamed, or moved many downloaded files, you can purge them all at once from the list with button "Remove inaccessible items".

There is a "confirmation on delete" in the sense that you have to push the button "Apply changes" to modify the list. Otherwise closing the window keeps the list unchanged.

So I have reported it as a bug:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80099

along with other suggestions to make it even more user friendly. Yours is also a good one.

I really like this extension. I use it quite often. But right now I could use an option to *add* files to the list. A malfunction deleted most of the files and now I need to put them back by searching all folders. Can only add them by finding the files and opening them one at a time. If I could select them through HM, it would be a time saver.

Opposite to other extensions, this extensions needs OpenOffice application to restart to take effect. This needs to be written out clearly to help users.

Great extension. It could be made more user-friendly by enabling the user to open a file by double-clicking on the item in the list (rather than having to select it, then click a button).

Great displaying more than ten files. I would also like to see an extension of the length of the file path display without having to click on the file.

Not everyone knows or remembers how to install extensions when packaged as archives instead of using OXT files. Please include installation instructions with the archive.

Yes, it is an oxt file.

You have to click the Get it! button, a new page displays, asking you to wait for dowload, then you will be asked where to download the oxt file.
Like any other extension in this repository.

Not getting this working, installed, reinstalled etc. Never got the settings dialogue in the menue... :-(

When I go to recent documents of same type I get the following showing up. May need to copy / paste the url to see image.

Using Open office.org version 3.3 under vista

Hello,

I noticed that the end of LGPL text license is quite funny. Is it done at purpose ?

I am not expert in international laws. It is a faithful copy of the original...
This part appears after the lines :

END OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS

How to Apply These Terms to Your New Libraries

They are not part of the contract. And they don't do any harm to the extension.

In version 1.1.1 the useless part of the license text is now deleted.

very nice extension. not sure where bugreports and feature requests are accepted, listing here for now :

1. if i open 'recent documents of same type', "current list" dropdown contents have yellow background, and this yellow background also covers the arrow if the dropdown itself (linux, kde);
2. in this dialog, count at the upper right corner of the list is editable textfield, but it doesn't seem to be actually editable;
3. this dialog can't be resized;

thanks for the extension

Thanks for your remarks.

1 - I use a standard ListBox, with no special tricks. The background color is one of the properties of a ListBox, choosing a color other than white is licit.
What you see is a bug of your OS or of your version of OpenOffice. If you have Ubuntu OS, try to deactivate Compiz. If your OpenOffice was provided by your Linux distribution, try instead the original OpenOffice version for Linux.

2 - This count is read-only. It is the number of documents displayed in the list, useful if you have more elements than can be displayed in the window.

3 - OpenOffice dialogs cannot be resized. E.g. see any dialog in File > Assistants.

Superb extension. If, like me, you wish to keep Text documents in one folder, spreadsheets in another and so forth, this is invaluable for quickly and easily opening documents.
