This is a Hindi (India) dictionary package for OOo spellchecker.
What I did is only making this GPL'ed dictionary packaged to be recognized by OOo3.0+, and I did NOT write this dictionary. I welcome any implovements.

You can get the source package from:
http://ftp.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/contrib/dictionaries/hi_IN.zip
which is available at:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Dictionaries#Hindi_.28India.29
And many thanks to the contribution from Swarup who made a great implovement to the source dictionary.

Dear Developer,

Urdu is also one of the most spoken language in Indo-Pak subcontinent. If possible kindle initiate the process to create a dictionary for Urdu Language also.

Mushtaque Asghar

I have been using aspell-hi in gedit (Ubuntu) for several years, and am quite pleased with aspell as a spellchecker. But gedit does have certain limitations, due to which I am thinking of switching my work over to OO Writer. I have developed quite a large personal dictionary in aspell-hi-- the personal dictionary being the word list (file name .aspell.hi.pws) that develops as you add words to the dictionary. In order to be able to switch my work over to OO Writer/Hunspell, I need to be able to transfer over my personal dictionary (which contains about 1200 words). Is there a place where I can do that? I tried creating a user-defined dictionary and adding into that, but it only seems to allow the addition of one word at a time.

In addition, in the main "system-wide" aspell-hi word list, I have found various errors over the years and have removed those, as well as removing words which are spelled there using anuswar, and for which I prefer to use the letter specific to the particular varg of the letter following. In short, I have done a lot of work with the main dictionary as well, to adapt it for my needs-- would I be able to transfer that word list (the hi.cwl file, or hi.wl in uncompressed form) to become the main word list for Hunspell in OO Writer?

Swarup

Hi Mihail,

Good job. Can you point me to location of dictionaries you have used? I would like to add more words.

regards,
Suresh

Hello.

The hunspell dictionary which I used is available at:
http://ftp.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/contrib/dictionaries/hi_IN.zip
(direct link to the zipped source file)
This can be downloaded from:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Dictionaries#Hindi_.28India.29
(List of OOo 2.x dictionaries)

And the original aspell package is:
http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/aspell/dict/hi/aspell6-hi-0.01-0.tar.bz2
(direct link to the bzipped original tarball)
