Extension for Writer. It can make colorful text, draw a few simple shapes, change brightness of text, make anagrams, inversed text, uneven text. This extension creates a group "Text Effects" in Tools/Add-ons menu for 7 independent shortcuts.

To draw a shape, open a document with text or paste any text in a new document, no more than one-two pages. Then you can create a background by clicking the shortcut Tools/Add-ons/Text Effects/Chatoyant colors. Now you have a background and can draw a shape by going Tools/Add-ons/Text Effects/Painting. It will draw a shape. If your document is large (more than 2-3 pages), the process can take a few minutes.

Thanks Again!

I have been trying to find a way to do rainbow text in OOO. This version does it. Thankyou.

One bug: with using chatoyant colors when one chooses to do it by lines (instead of words or symbols), it deselects the text.

Would be handy to be able to do it in draw so that I can make a logo image. Bit tidier than doing it in the text editor and then taking a screenshot etc...

I think there was/is a version of MS Publisher that can do rainbow text and word art. OOO doesn't seem to be competing in that market...?

To place rainbow text in Draw you can copy text from Writer and paste it as Formatted Text [RTF] (menu Edit/Paste Special... or press Ctrl+Shift+V, or the button "Paste" with dropdown menu).

The extension works fine but change colors for all the text. Unable to apply for a selection.

This gives me a Scripting Framework error and will not work.
The error is as follows:
The following basic Script could not be found:
library: txebib
module: txe_an_d
method: Dialogan
location: 'application'

Is there a way to fix this? Please help!

OOO should be restarted. If you are using Windows, there is a quickstarter that allows to quickly open OOO documents and create new OOO documents. By default, it is loaded, even if you close all OOO windows, OOO is still loaded. You can check this in the Task Manager (press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to launch the Task Manager), look for "soffice.bin" and "soffice.exe" in the list of running processes. You can exit the quickstarter by right-clicking on its icon beside clock, select "exit". You can unmark "load OOO at system startup" if you don't want OOO to start automatically at boot, and this will mean that the quickstarter icon will not appear after reboot. If you want to reenable quickstarter, go to Tools-->Parameters--Openofice.org--Memory, and mark "Load OOO at startup" again. If you want to immediately load the quickstarter after you exited it, you can do it by launching this file manually: C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 3\program\quickstart.exe .
