System Independent version - All releases
Compatible with OpenOffice 4: Unknown
User feedback:
Compatible with OpenOffice 4.x?

Export Header levels 1 - 10 as Freemind file.

How it works:

  1. Create a blank Writer document or open an existing Writer document.
  2. Use Heading 1 - Heading 10 or any other heading styles to create the hierarchical structure. The headings must be the ones in Tools - Outline numbering. Top level from document properties (Title and Subject or alternative the filename). Missing levels are fiiled in with new levels
  3. Use File - Export Freemind
  4. Open your new .mm file with Freemind

I would be happy to get feedback.

Bugs and problems:
Remember to restart OpenOffice after install, upgrade og uninstall the extension.
On Linux
If you get an error while installing like "Missing ".../LuceneHelpWrapper.jar" you probably need the package "openoffice.org-java-common".

I've downloaded and installed extension in OpenOffice.org 3.1. (Spanish locale version)
I've opened a document with styles (Title 1, Title 2, ...). Launching the extension, I get following error message:
"Data type or value not accepted. Index out of defined area"
and macro editor opens highlighting the following sentence:
If oStats(4).Value > 25 Then.

Note: In the document used, oStats(4).Value is 294

What happens?

Hi,

a few weeks ago, Export to Freemind worked perfectly. Now, it always ends up in the StarBasic editor in the line:
sString$ = "Progress: " & String(Val(ParsRel),"-") & "|" & String(25 - Val(ParsRel),"-")

Is there a solution to this problem?

Thank you

Whith most of my files I get the same problem
1) Information window (OpenOffice.org 3.2): "Acción no admitida. Llamada de procedimiento no válida".
2) Macro window (Mis macros y diálogos ExportFreeMind - OpenOffice.org Basic):
sString$ = "Progress: " & String(Val(ParsRel),"-") & "|" & String(25 - Val(ParsRel),"-")

The extension work perfectly in a new test file with some "encabezados" (headings). I use XP SP3

Anyway, great extension !!

Hi,

First, thanks for the very useful tool. Thanks to it, I was able to make mind maps of the tables of contents of several books in a relatively short time. I do, however, have a few minor suggestions for improvement.

The most important one is that items containing links (URL's) in the OOo document transfer over to FreeMind with the links intact. Instead, I had to reinsert the links on the FM map.

The export command does not automatically put the .mm file extension on the file. I think its behavior would be more consistent with other softwares if it did.

A really great feature, but one that would take a fair amount of work, would be a setup macro that would map lines with certain characteristics to corresponding Heading lines. Alternatively, but not as useful, would be a way to substitute particular styles for individual Headingx styles. (E.g., so that "reference" style is treated as a "Heading 4" style. As an example of how this would be applied, copy the table of contents from any book you find online. There will be a clear, natural hierarchy, but to use the extension one has to map the hierarchy into the corresponding Headings. This macro would automate that process based on certain characteristics of the text. (E.g., text beginning with 3 tabs, italicized, in Title case might be given Heading 3 style. The user would just have to configure the variables, and the macro would do the rest.)

Thanks again for the wonderful tool.

I think that this could be a very useful extension for writing and re-arranging content in OpenOffice writer. However, I've a very complex document, and to do this at present would be quite repetitive. In other words, I would make the re-organization in Freemind, then re-create the re-org in writer. It would be better, if the text were included in the export, to just export the freemind file, after re-organization and other edits, back to openoffice. Am I missing something? Anyway, thanks for the very interesting work.

Hi Leif,

this is a good idea and a great extension to OpenOffice. It is always good to improve interoperability between OpenSource applications. Export to Freemind works almost perfectly. I often work with structured documents that contain new ideas and concepts. This extension is just perfect to discuss TOCs with other team members as well as students.

However, I encountered a little problem: Exporting an unsaved document ended up in the StarBasic debug mode. After saving, export worked perfectly.

Gerald

@Gerald
This problem should be solved now. It's not possible so export a unsaved document.
